Iowa Native Trees and Shrubs specializes in propagating and growing native plants from locally collected seed. Plants are grown in a patented system of root pruning containers to produce an extremely fibrous root system that ensures a healthy and vigorous plant ready to be successfully transplanted.

In early March, seeds are germinated in the greenhouse, fertilized, and irrigated for 8 to 10 weeks. Patented air-root-pruning cell trays maximize the number of roots and the development of the root system, establishing a strong foundation for top growth.

From the cell trays, seedlings are transplanted into 1 gallon root pruning containers for the next 8-10 weeks and finally transplanted into 3, 5, ,or 7 gallon root pruning containers or planted directly into the field in 12" or 18" root control bags.
